The Perfect Vacation

Hellllooooo Thanksgiving Break!

I am so glad to see you! This school year feels all-consuming and breaks from school allow me to find myself again. The first day of a break always feels like a welcome home party. Remember this place? Remember the things you like to do? Yeah...get settled in.

Today I went to my happy place (Target), did some crafty projects, spent some quality time with the pup, who is still recovering from being neutered last week, and cleaned up the house a bit. I am so looking forward to spending the rest of the week with family and friends. It's been way too long!

With vacation on my brain, I'm linking up with Sunny Days in Second Grade for her My Truth Monday series.

Today it's all about your perfect vacation. Here we go!

My Truth Monday- Creepy Stuff!

Happy Monday! Oxymoron? I think so.

Today I'm linking up with Denise at Sunny Days in Second Grade for My Truth Monday.

This week we're posting about creepy stuff. Here goes:

Foods that gross me out: I've never much been a fan of chicken but even more-so lately. The idea of eating it grosses me out. When it comes to shredded meat- brisket and the like, I've never been a fan. The texture bothers me. Seafood and I don't agree mentally. Many have tried to get me to eat it, and many have failed. It's not that I don't think I'll like the taste, I just can't wrap my head around it.

Scary movies- heck yeah or no go? Heck yeah! I like to watch scary movies, but only in the comfort of my own home (because I'll probably make a fool of myself) with a blanket to hide my eyes.

The thing that creeps me out more than anything else: Frogs, lizards, snakes, and other seemingly slimy things. I know that lizards and snakes aren't actually slimy (or so I've been told), but the idea of one of those things crawling across my feet when wearing flip flops makes me want to scream. Last week I was walking up to the office to make some copies at school and turned the corner in the hallway (the same hallway my class saw a potato bug in earlier that day) and a lizard went running right in front of me. I beelined it back to my classroom and the copies still aren't made.

Your turn to link up with Denise and tell us what creeps you out!

A Changed Woman

There are a couple of items in the "teacher world" that years ago I swore I wouldn't fall prey to. One of those items being typical teacher clothes- you know what I'm talking about- the long denim dresses with the wood painted schoolbus necklaces or the sweaters with the apples on them. So far so good on that front.

Another item I told myself I'd never wear in the classroom was an apron. It always seemed so unnecessary. So teacher-y. "Mrs. Jones is hands-down the best teacher!"

That is until last August when my school was introduced to a math program that came with an apron for every teacher. What?! My first reaction was pretty negative. "I'm not wearing that thing," I told myself.

They gave it to us to hold celebration points and popsicle sticks to call on students. I reluctantly gave it a go and found that it was, as they said it would be, pretty handy. Everything I needed was right there. The only problem? It was brown. Brown? Really? I quickly hot glued some rhinestones and flowers to it and it got me through the year. But it was still brown.

My mind changed even more on the apron front when I was puttering around on Etsy one day. Ohhh Etsy. That site gets me every time. I stumbled across a seller who made teacher aprons and the patterns were right up my alley. I'm talking polka dots and chevron print.

I ordered one up and my apron came last week. I have to say, I'm pretty excited to start teaching math while rocking that thing!

I am changed woman.

Morning Must-Haves

It's Friday and the first day of summer! I have to admit that my day has not exactly turned out how I pictured it, but that's ok. I messed up my back earlier this week and have spent the day resting and catching up on t.v. shows.

What better time to hop on the linky train and share my Morning Must-Haves with Across the Hall in 2nd Grade's, "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things" linky?

Four items that help make my morning run smoother:

I love checking email, Facebook, blogs, and more first thing in the morning. My mom emails me every morning from work, and it's always a great way to start the day. I also love listening to iTunes as I get ready.

I'm not usually all that hungry when I first get up, so a quick breakfast is in order. A banana usually does the trick.

I try not to spend more than 5-10 minutes on makeup, so I keep it simple and fun. Just enough to make my pale, sleepy face look presentable.

The cupboard is filled with about 15 of these plastic cups in all different shapes, colors, and sizes. I take one to school every morning filled with ice water. Yum!

Link up your Morning Must-Haves!

Tell Me Something Good

Happy Thursday everyone! It's time to talk about the good things happening- a great way to start the day!

Something Good at School:
With testing starting next week, I spent yesterday afternoon getting my room ready. I took down the reading and math bulletin boards and have blank slates in my room right now. I LOVE it. Why? Because I finally get to put up kids artwork and poetry and other fun stuff they've been working on, instead of standards, objectives, and strategy posters. It will actually look like KIDS are in my room all day!

Something Good at Home:
I am super excited about this weekend. My birthday is on Saturday and I'm spending the day going on a shopping spree. I don't think I've ever been more excited about my birthday. And perfect timing too, because my flat iron gave out this morning.

Shopping lessens the blow of turning another year older.

Link up the good things in your life.

Worst Blogger Award and Skittles!

And the "Worst Blogger Award" goes to...me!

Life has been busy and busy is good, but my poor blog has been neglected. I am going to do my best to get back in the swing of things and what better way to do that than to link up with the latest, "Let's Get Acquainted" linky from Latoya

TOPIC - Skittles Game
Here is the code:
Red- Favorite Ice Cream Flavor
Orange- Favorite Memory from College
Yellow- Favorite Sports Team
Green- Favorite Fast Food Place
Purple- Wild Card(Tell anything about yourself)

Red- I'm not a big fan of ice cream, I'd rather have frozen yogurt any day. So I'm going to live on the edge and break the rules and say my favorite frozen yogurt flavor is strawberry or cake batter. Yum!

Orange- My favorite part of college was probably my living situations overall. I loved the new form of independence, the dorm life where there were always people around to chat it up with, the first apartment to decorate, and a time in my life when I was starting to create who I wanted to be.

Yellow- A professional sports fan I am not. I would much rather go watch people I know play football or baseball, but if I had to choose a team to root for it would be the San Francisco Giants.

Green- My favorite fast food place is McDonald's. Their fries are delicious. Everything else is eh.

Purple- I have a slight obsession with purses. And lip gloss. And polka dots. Yesterday I went to Target to pick up some page protecters for a new form of homework I'm trying, and I walked out with polka dot shorts and a polka dot sweater. I'm sure there would've been more polka dotted items in my cart had I not caught on to my obsession and abandoned ship. And then came home and ordered a new lip gloss. Whoops!

Favorites Survey

Today is my first day back after Spring Break. I am thinking the students are going to be just as tired as I am. I'm starting off the day by linking up with Flying into First Grade's latest linky- A Favorites Survey.

Favorite Place to Shop

Favorite TV Shows
I couldn't choose just one, so I'm sharing two. Shameless is so crazy and funny and so completely out there that it shocks me and cracks me up at the same time.

Modern Family usually brings a smile to my face no matter what kind of day I'm having.

Favorite Sweet Treat
Lemon bars- yum!

Favorite Food
Guacamole

Favorite Restaurant
I don't really have a favorite. Any Mexican food restaurants are usually at the top of my list- especially if they have yummy guacamole!

Your turn to link up!

My Lie....Revealed!

One more day until Spring Break! I think I can...I think I can...I think I can...The kids are ready. I am soooo ready as this cold is kicking my bootie. Tomorrow is Pajama Day- THAT should calm the kids down- ha!

Just stopping in to reveal my lie from the Two Truths and a Lie linky hosted by Latoya from Flying into First

Earlier this week I told you three things-

1. I went bungee jumping in Lake Tahoe for my 25th birthday.

2. I've never lit a match in my life.

3. I can touch my tongue to my nose.

The lie was...#1!

Let's break it down. I am afraid of heights y'all. Like, standing on a ladder petrifies me. You should've seen me hanging decorations for a bridal shower a couple weeks ago. Panic. Attack. So no, no bungee jumping for this girl.

I've never lit a match. I love candles, but the matches scare me. I use the long handled lighters.

And finally, when I was little my brother told me that if I could touch my tongue to my nose I'd become a princess. I couldn't that night at the dinner table, when his amazing lie was revealed, but I never forgot it and once I could touch my tongue to my nose I was SO happy to tell him! Still waiting for the tiara. Brothers.

Two Truths and a Lie

Sunday again? Already?! How does this happen so quickly?! Although I'm not jazzed that it's Sunday night already, I am pretty excited to be linking up with Flying into First Grade's, "Let's Get Aqcuainted Linky" for week 2!

This week's topic is Two Truths and a Lie.
Your job is to guess which one of the following is a lie and post it in my comments.

1. I went bungee jumping in Lake Tahoe for my 25th birthday.
2. I've never lit a match in my life.
3. I can touch my tongue to my nose.

Don't forget to link up and have a great week!

Initial Likes

Today I'm linking up with Flying into First Grade's, "Lets Get Acquainted" linky party.

This week we're introducing ourselves by using our initials to tell things we like. Here goes...

J- June and July
Right about now those months are sounding glorious. I know instead of counting down the days I should make the days count, but I'm a wee bit burnt out right now and thoughts of summer are quite enticing.

A- Avocados- yum!
I must still be thinking about the salad I had last night. Avocados are delicious! On a salad, as guacamole, in a sandwich- little green gobs of goodness I tell you!

R-Rob Thomas
I can recall singing and dancing to the song "Push" with friends at a sleepover in 1997. I think there's video of it somewhere. Ever since then I've been hooked as a Matchbox Twenty/Rob Thomas fan. That man's voice and lyrics soothe me. I'm hoping to go my 8th concert when they decide to bring their tour back to California.

Make sure you link up your initials too!

Tonight is the season finale of the Bachelor! Really it's the only thing that's exciting about it being a Monday!

Sunday Goodness

I'm linking up today with Rowdy in First Grade's Tell Me Something Good!

Something Good at School: The students just finished up their fraction unit and did fantastic on their post assessment! The littles had a great time making a fraction sundae with their favorite kind of paper ice cream. They wrote the fraction of flavors of ice cream underneath. I suppose if I was a really nice teacher I would've given them real ice cream sundaes. Ah well.

Something Good at Home: Dakota is three months old today! He just had a bath and smells so yummy. We are playing fetch with his stuffed ducky right now. The pupster is so fun to have around and has brought me thousands of smiles already.

Your turn to link up- what's good with you?
